DENNIS TRUJILLO AND SUE ORR CONQUER AT 'CLUB' CUE CLUB
January 30, 2012 - by Amy C. Encinias, VBB

dennis_trujillo
On Saturday, January 28th, 2012, 36 teams signed up for the 1st Stop of Vegas Billiards Tour 2012Scotch Doubles 8-Ball (16 & Under) Tournament. Keith Parker & Howard Dameron did an outstanding job defeating Dennis Trujillo & Sue Orr for the hot seat. With their combined age of 143, they impressed everyone with their stamina and determination. But Dennis and Sue were determined as well. They defeated the very strong team of Tim Kovacs & Rocky Shiflett in the semi-final match and came back for a rematch against Keith & Howard. After about 10.5 hours of tournament play, there was no talk of splitting and the true double elimination final match was underway. sue_orrThe patrons changed from tournament players to a younger, hip Saturday night crowd. The room seemed to fill up fast and appeared as if 3 times as many people that were in the tournament that day were now in the room. The DJ worked steadily setting up his DJ booth, video projection, huge speakers (that concerned us at the tournament desk enough to relocate from being directly in front of the speakers) and psychedelic lighting all over. But none of this seemed to distract the two teams battling for the title. The DJ was nice enough to wait as long as he could, but once Dennis & Sue won the first set 4-2, the club was hoppin! At this point, you couldn't even hear Jeremy talk anymore. The players were unbelievable troopers and Dennis & Sue won the second set 3-2. A big congrats also goes to Rob Hately & Ryan DeBerg for winning some great matches and taking 4th place overall.

SHAWN FORET & ROGER IGNASIAK WIN TWO SCOTCH DOUBLES IN A ROW
January 14, 2012 - by Amy C. Encinias, VBB

shawn_roger
On Saturday, January 14th, 2012, 27 teams signed up for the Dealer's Choice Phil Engstrom Memorial Scotch Doubles 9-Ball (17 & Under) Tournament. The only all-lady team, Christina Kolkhorst & Samantha did a great job winning 1 match against Rob Hately & Scott Moden. Jason Osborn & George Meyer went all the way to the hot seat on the winner's side and waited quite a while for their final opponents. It was they who defeated Shawn Foret & Roger Ignasiak to put them on the one-loss side. There, Shawn & Roger defeated 3 more teams to meet them once again in the finals. Maybe Jason & George had to sit too long and a little fatigue set in during the 11.5 hour tournament. Shawn & Roger won both sets to claim the title. Rebecca Wagner & Chris McCreary were a force to be reckoned with taking 3rd place in the tournament. And many congratulations goes to Jim Taylor & Grant Gilbert for winning some great matches and taking 4th place overall.
